Good writing, with a strong point and with life oozing out.

in an expansive cafeteria
bright light straining through tinted windows
a single cup of coffee between them
sitting in silence
hollow eyes
empty hearts
sodden brains
the whole universe circles around them
the event horizon of a black hole
a giant unspoken prayer in their open mouths
the diaper bag sits beside her
but there is no baby
they wait for word from surgery
I know
I feel it
I remember
it’s always in my bones
they are dead, waiting for life
burning, and extinguished
but I say nothing
because there is no comfort
only questions
a holy myopia
only waiting
(and I have no happy ending to share)
its a baptism by fire for parents
the heat will weld them together
or explode everything to bits
Lord, have mercy
