Good writing, with a strong point and with life oozing out.

“Let’s go out for a run”
was what he said
waiting while the young guy
put on his shorts and shoes

they ran along the city streets
then into a lovely little park
winding their way
back into the trees

stopping in a meadow
soft light filtering down
as birds flitted
aware of their presence

the younger man smiled
panting softly
looking up at the trees
as the shovel clanged against his head
then covered the body with dirt

it was grizzly business
but needed to be done
that guy and his various victories
40 minute solo, 3 hour triumph
70-mile weeks, et al.
needed to be buried
so that a new, old runner
could take his place
