There are many things to celebrate
about finally finding a used Weber smoker
on the Craigslist:
the uncertainty
the thrill of the chase
the race going to the swift
the thrift of a great deal
the hand-off from a seasoned griller
reporting that she runs
for twelve hours without further fuel
seasoning and smoke
built up over four years
of devoted meaty love
bags of apple and cherry chunks
thrown in for free
but knowing by nose
that all of the hickory got burned up
but nothing better than loading the toy
into the back of the family truckster
turning back toward home
to hear the child in the back seat
report without prompting:
“Daddy, your new smoker smells
like the yummy meat you cook.
It is making me hungry!”
