1.
just before she says it
she grins and tilts her head
“I just love you, daddy!”
punctuated by pile-driving
her forehead
into his chest
he has said this to her
from the very start
and she has believed it
accepted its truth into her cells
until that love has expanded
large enough to enfold him
their arms wrapped in love

when he finally puts down
his poem in progress
she wants to know
how to make a coin spin
so they lay their bellies down
on the old hardwood floor
he, showing her how to hold it up
very carefully… just like this
flick the edge only slightly
until she gets it right
the quarter dancing across the floor
like a flickering globe
their arms raised in victory
