at breakfast she swivels her head
between milk carton and cereal box
reading them over and again
just like her father before
after breakfast, it’s to the couch
to return to her book
he sees her and smiles
then grins:
“put down that book and go to school!”
mock indignation in his voice
relishing the irony
amazed at history
repeating itself
