A few years ago, and following the birth of their first child, some wise friends confided that, “once you have a kid, there is no such thing as vacation.” What they meant was that leaving the house for longer than a couple hours requires hauling the whole circus kit with you. And I definitely see what they meant.
And yet, we got away for that trip to Iowa, and it went great! I was dreading the flights, but they were super-smooth and mostly fun. So how bad could a road trip be? Oh, sure, it only occurred to us yesterday that we might spend Easter in Chattanooga, but why not? Breaking it up with a motel overnight will make it seem like vacation, I’m sure. And so it only follows that we should leave tonight at bedtime, right? As in, in just a few minutes. It’ll be great.
