The last time The Wife was pregnant, the final days were counted down in a certain march toward a sober conclusion. This time, there are many more unknown variables, eager expectations, hopes, plans, and surprises. Starting with, ‘when will this happen?’
I’ve noticed that all of this uncertainty has led me to some strange behaviors. Over the past few weeks, I’ve observed the following behaviors each day:
- washing of dishes
- washing of self
- cleaning floor and/or other parts of apartment
- organization of some important part of life
- tidying up of stray items
- removal of trash and recycling
And I do things like grocery shopping, laundry, errands, and the topping off of fuel tanks much more frequently. All of which leaves me with a neat house, nice meals, smooth face, and generally rosy outlook on life.
It is at this point that one might expect me to say something provocative about eschatology, time management, or psychology. Or perhaps to make some statement of commitment toward this Better Life, or at least to offer some hope of continuation of the aforementioned behaviors. But I’m not going to do that.
