Good writing, with a strong point and with life oozing out.

I May Be Old, But I’ve Got Great Shoes

November 30, 2008

My family got an early start on my birthday this year by filling a whole day with festivities. Starting with me making a pot of coffee, then going back to bed for an hour while my girls played with trains and ate grapes. Once I finally got up, we had The Wife’s scrumptious apple pancakes before we headed out the door for some shopping. After which we got some lunch at Legal Seafood– I had pan-seared scallops with mashed potatoes and seaweed salad, paired with a perfect glass of a big, round, oaky chardonnay. We hurried home for naps all around, then had a nice time making dinner: pork rib chops with apples and a brown ale sauce, with mashed butternut squash and Brussels sprouts. Followed by a mind-bending chocolate torte with vanilla ice cream (preceded by 4 repetitions of ‘Happy Birthday to you’ in an effort to get the perfect photo).

I suppose it’s telling that my birthday recollections always revolve around food. Though in my defense, I’m learning more restraint around portions. What I’m not restrained about is indulging in the lavish love of a wonderful family. I’m truly blessed. Happy birthday to me.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Stav! Food sounds fabulous. And the company even better. I hope you gave me a fleeting thought whilst partaking at my old stomping grounds. :)

  3. Happy Birthday, Mike!

If I recall, we are at that “same place” this year…yep, mine was two weeks ago. We are rounding the bend…

The food sounds as wonderful as the relaxed family life you have there. Many continued blessings.
