Good writing, with a strong point and with life oozing out.

Poetic Theology

October 24, 2008

I’m at the Reclaiming Paul theological conversation, and Kathy Grieb just referenced this remarkable poem from Yehuda Amichai. It is so delightful and fulfilling when theology finds expression in poetry.

From the place where we are right
Flowers will never grow
In the spring.

The place where we are right
Is hard and trampled
Like a yard.

But doubts and loves
Dig up the world
Like a mole, a plow.
And a whisper will be heard in the place
Where the ruined
House once stood.

Mike – it was great to meet you and learn a little about what’s going on in your life and ministry. I hope we are able to stay connected in the months ahead. I will send your greetings to the Basler family.

    Hey mike,

i was referred to your blog by a friend who recommended some of your poetry. i have been asked by some of the folks who are creating an ‘emerging church’ literary magazine to seek out some writers. is this something you may be interested in hearing more about? holler at me:
