Okay, so maybe that title is overstated, but only a little. Jesus for President is so good that, though I’ve had it for several days now, I haven’t read much of it– I just keep flipping through it, reveling in the quotes, facts, stitching, photos, and fonts (including typeset from some battered old typewriter, and lots of handwriting). Every page is an arresting work of art, complementing the content with humor, insight, and provocation.
What’s even better is that it was done by several friends: Shane, Chris, Holly and Ryan (their graphic design company, SharpSeven, did all of the design for the interior), Lora, and Paul. It’s incredible to see such cross-country collaboration that results in such beauty.
Many people talk about innovation and artistry and fresh ideas, but most only accomplish some slightly creative content delivered in timeworn formats. But this team has flipped that equation all around: they haven’t said a peep about their approach, but have delivered something truly fresh and inspiring and creative. It is a book beyond words.
