Good writing, with a strong point and with life oozing out.

The [Funk] is in My Space

January 22, 2008

Our friend Teo brought his funk bass, and himself, to take our church on a wonderfully disjointed journey toward Sabbath this past Sunday. Dude is a master not only of his instrument, but of graciously connecting us with some soul, and of sharing himself in the process. By some magic, he actually made us suburbanites feel ‘cool’ for having a basic familiarity with 80′s era rock, and showed us something with his fingers and his heart that words would have never done. My toe is still tapping, and my head is still bobbing. Oh, yeah.

iPete‘s got the podcast up (on iTunes, too, which is the true sign of legitimacy), and my tiny homage to the preacher/poet Russell Rathbun is there in all of its brevity and (attempted) funk. But the real power came in the music underneath the artistic reading of Maranda‘s ‘Lectio Divinae for Bad Meditators’. That, and the Matrix, and just enough cowbell. Oh, yeah.

    Mike my brotha,

It was truly an honor to be in the company of such royalty. Heir’s and Heires’ of the King.

You guys are doing some really provocative work at Common Table. My Queen, Prince and Princess we’re blessed.

I am glad that I was able to bring something to the “Table” that made some sense to somebody. Cause I wasn’t sure it did.

I can’t wait to do it again, if you’ll have me? The next time I will bring a drummer and take it to the next level.

    Peace and blessings, Teo.

    Give me more cow bell!
