Good writing, with a strong point and with life oozing out.

My buddy Ethan is a big kid. About four years older than my Girlie, I certainly don’t expect him to go out of his way to engage with a little toddler like her. Besides, he’s a man of the world: dressed in a sharp leather coat with cool shoes and pants, he’s well on his way to becoming bi-lingual, though far too composed to bring much attention to his brilliance.

So I was surprised to see him so expressively connecting with Ella when he arrived at church on Sunday: smiling and laughing and leading her around the room to her great delight. So grateful was I for this gift that I made a point of thanking him for playing with her.

“I’m not playing with her,” he said, eyebrows earnest, smile wide, and well-spoken as always. “I just saw how glad she was to see me, and how much fun she was having, and I wanted her to have more fun!”
