Good writing, with a strong point and with life oozing out.

Damage Control

August 19, 2007

The Wife and The Girlie are going over the river and through the air to visit Nana this week, and I’m already missing both of them. So my favorite daughter and I made a special trip to our #1 Sunday afternoon spot: the park. Where I chased her back and forth between the swing (where after approximately 20 swings, she would announce her desire to exit said implement) and the playground, where I learned her latest trick. It seems that in her love for the slide, she has eliminated the step called ‘sitting down’. In spite of my careful explanations, repeated entreaties, and earnest signing to ‘sit down’, she would just charge the top of the slide as if she were running off a cliff, ala Wile E. Coyote. I was there to redirect her, of course, and she would scream with glee the entire way down. But that Girl is fearless.

Oh, good, I thought it was just our girl who did that. And that my bad parenting was somehow to blame. If so, at least I’m in good company!
