The Wife just called me from the hospital where she works to tell me that some old friends from SLR just had their first baby. For many years, and in the friendliest manner, Tom beat me in race after race, until we both made it to Boston. That same year Janet went to the considerable effort to establish her one-person cheering station at the very crux of Heartbreak Hill. She had a huge DCRRC banner, a loud voice, and a bright smile under a hot sun. Even now, I cry with joy when I think of seeing her there.
So welcome to the world, Wendy! You have wonderful parents who will love you very much. I’m sorry that they both cast such long shadows of generosity and grace, but that’s the best kind of legacy to have to live up to. God bless you, little one.
