Good writing, with a strong point and with life oozing out.

All We Need is Just a Little Patience

June 5, 2006

We may have seen the last of young Will’s salutes. This morning, we got the report that he had pulled his ET tube out of his airway. Since he had essentially extubated himself, the team went ahead and turned off his ventilator and let him breathe on his own. Which he did for about 20 minutes, before his heart rate and breathing slowed considerably and he was re-intubated (on the second try this time, thank goodness).

So Will continues to set his own schedule, and keep everyone else on their toes. He is now resting comfortably. He is also securely swaddled, for his sake and ours.

I’ve been walking these streets at night
Just trying to get it right. It’s hard to see with so many around.
You know I don’t like being stuck in a crowd. And the streets don’t change, but maybe the name. I ain’t got time for the game.

    Need a little patience, yeah.
