Good writing, with a strong point and with life oozing out.

Dog’s Life

February 20, 2006

I’m watching the dogs who live next door this week. Which is fairly easy duty for me, but obviously a challenge for them. I mean, I roust them from their slumber in the morning, let them wander around outside for a few minutes, then bring them back inside. Where they scarf down some dog food, lap at their water, and find a comfortable place to lay down on their doggie beds. I turn the TV on, and they just lay there until I holler at them to get up. At which point I take them to one of the bedrooms to lay on their other doggie beds, and where they stay until the same routine is performed in the evening. Makes me a little jealous.

Being a cat is even better. Cats don’t even have to act grateful. :-)

Mike, I can honestly see the dogs life (as you’ve described it) satisfying you for maybe a morning. But days and days of nothing to do but lay around? Seriously. You’d chew all the shoes, all the woodwork, the legs of the furniture, and probably rip all the pillows apart. Not to mention chewing through tax files from the last five years that your foolish master had left on the floor by the computer. And when your owner returned, you’d be jumping in circles with your leash in your mouth.

Not me, dawnrw. Where’s the doggie bed? I need a nap.

Aha! Sounds like great practice for kids.
