Good writing, with a strong point and with life oozing out.

Overheard in the Waiting Room

January 26, 2006

The drug reps circled in the lobby like blood-sniffing sharks as we sat down at our OB/GYN office. In the seat right behind me, a conversation was already in progress as a white-haired lady loudly lectured a middle-aged man who might have been her son. “I firmly believe, Dan, that good begets good. When you are good and kind to others, when you are a good person, then good things will happen to you! I’ve seen this to be true, Dan. This is how life works.”

If I weren’t such a gentleman, I might have lept up to exorcise her demons or maybe clubbed her with the book of Job. Or at least delivered a firm, “Get behind me!”. But she already was behind me.

ouch. that must have sucked. I remember hearing something like that in the waiting room when my father almost died from cancer surgery complications. it just doesn’t ring true.

When I hear people say stuff like that I think they’re either in denial or they must have had very blessed lifes. But if I had to put money on it… I’d go for denial.

Sorry you head to deal with her issues.

FYI, I’ve tracked the lady down. She’s being ‘dealt with’ as I write.

    Tim out.
