Good writing, with a strong point and with life oozing out.

Christmas Warming Trend

December 25, 2005

Things that thawed my icy heart on Christmas:

Letting the wife pick Christmas music in the car.
Seeing an inflatable Santa Claus in the yard.
Smelling a tree in the Living Room.
Drywall, lots and lots of drywall.
Egg Nog.
Coffee.
Toys-R-Us.
It’s a Wonderful Life.
Kill Bill, Volumes 1 and 2.
The unrestrained joy of two little kids on the Big Day.
One of those kids repeatedly wishing me a “Merry Christmas, in jail!”.
Driving past two huge malls with absolutely empty parking lots on Christmas Day.
The attendant awful restaurants in the shopping mall parking lots also empty.
My brother-in-law’s baptism.
“Delmar’s been saved!”

    Mike,
I very rarely read your blog, but when I do I read days at a time. The reason that I rarely read it is because every time I do, I feel so sad that I can’t be there with you, living life and picking up the pearls you drop along your way, that I get terribly depressed and decide never to come to your site again. Until I can’t stand it anymore and just have to see what’s going on with the Stavs. I miss you guys.

I, on the other hand, love to come feast on a regular basis and enter an imaginary world where the Stavs live next door. If there’s not much updated since the last time I gorged, I read prior posts and pretend that I’m having a chat with my friend Mike.

What does this say about the differences between Greta (my beautiful wife) and me? Well, I’m fat and she’s thin. There’s a start.

I miss you too, Mike and Stace. I miss you a lot.
