A few weeks ago, there was one of those “check out these crazy idiots” story in the news. It seems a school system in Richmond, VA had upgraded their computers, and so decided to sell off a couple hundred iBooks for fifty bucks apiece. So a whole bunch of people showed up a couple of days early to wait outside for their chance to buy one. What transpired was worse than any Star Wars premiere: people peeing in the parking lot, sleeping in lawn chairs, fighting for position, etc. etc.. Until the moment of truth, when there was a small stampede to the door, resulting in some minor injuries for a few people. Plus lots of angry folks without computers.
Perspective #1: These people are crazy, desperate, and should be institutionalized. Subtly suggested by the newspeople.
Perspective #2: Why didn’t anyone tell me? I would have waited a week for a free computer! Exclaimed by myself.
Perspective #3: Naw, dude, those are just G3′s, probably. You don’t want one of those. Dismissively uttered by iPete.

Perspective #4 … yes, but I wanted one for LightGirl!!!!
Well … I’m glad I didn’t know about it. That would have overwhelmed me I just know it.
I’m still the most amazed by the woman who peed her pants so she didn’t lose her place in line. I cannot imagine the deal good enough to make me willing to wet myself in public, then stand there for awhile longer.
