Good writing, with a strong point and with life oozing out.

I’m a professor! Well, I’m trying anyway.

In an effort to help out our friend who is grieving the loss of his mother in Florida, I’m substitute teaching his ethics class two mornings this week. He was kind enough to send me his lectures and coach me through things, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that this is a four and one-half hour class. Sheesh. If things go badly, that is very bad, indeed. And these aren’t the most motivated students– most are culinary arts majors who are fulfilling a general education requirement. Translation: ten very bored students, and one very concerned substitute teacher.

But we all survived more-or-less intact, and will see each other again on Thursday. I tried to walk the line between ‘cool, hip, ironic prof’, and ‘earnest educator’. They tried to act interested, and didn’t snore too loudly while they slept.

In the meantime, my new environs have awakened an intermittent pet allergy. My eyes are very swollen and irritated, by nose, ears, and mouth are all scally, and one of my knees is itchy. Oh, and my wedding ring itches like crazy. Seriously.

Stop it, dude! You’re making me itchy.
Man! I leave this blog for a week or two, and it explodes. I’ve got to keep a closer eye on you.
