This is Lily. She is my sweet 3 1/2 year-old niece. She is racing through life, taking everything at face value. “My brother Finny has diarrhea”, she says earnestly. “I don’t know what that means, but he can’t stop shoo-shooing.” Right. No filter, just unabashed love for all of life– and even for herself. Once she realized that I was taking her picture with my phone, she kept insisting that I take more pictures and let her see them. Of course, we both agreed that they were all “good ones”.
Finn is at the crest of the wave of verbal interaction. At 18 months, he is expressing himself joyfully and intelligently. Just not with words. He makes all of the noises, and uses all of the facial expressions, but hasn’t quite gotten to the formation of actual nouns and verbs. I wanted to stay just one more day, because I’m certain that he’ll be chatting up the whole world any minute.
